On Dorothy...

So an illustration club that I belong to had a FanArt theme this month. I created this piece based on that theme and on the theme, Poppies, for another group I'm involved with. Killing two birds with one stone! This is Dorothy Among The Poppies, based on L. Frank Baum's character, Dorothy Gale.

11x14, oil pastel on canvas board. I wanted a folk art feel.

During The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Dorothy and her companions become stranded in a field of poppies. Since opium is derived from poppies (I knew this as a child), I found the idea of a young girl under the spell of this plant to be pretty disturbing. I suppose this is a piece portraying Dorothy, the opium addict.

I have an idea of what I'm going to do for poppy. Unfortunately, it seems the idea is a bit disturbing. So that's what is going on.

Also; I have another dentist appointment this Tuesday. I've been going to the dentist every Tuesday for the past 3 weeks and each time is horrible.

Maybe my poppy design will be influenced by drilling sounds and burnt tooth smell

What the heck! Why so many dentist appts? I'm so sorry. The dentist sucks.

I really liked what you turned in for the poppy submission. I CAN'T WAIT to see what you do for 3000 AD.

Tyler and I were reading your blog today. We miss you and LURV YOU!
