My life has changed so much since I applied to UVU. Since I attended my first college drawing class. Since I turned in my first academic paper. Since I was accepted into the Illustration BFA program.
I can't emphasize enough the positive impact this experience has had on me. The people that I've come to know, admire, and be privileged to call my friends. I'm overwhelmed with gratitude.
Each person I have come across at UVU has taught me something. Something about myself, about human nature, about the universe. About art, about education, about writing. About perseverance. About pain, about healing, about generosity. About friendship, about strength, about love.
Thank you. Thank you so much to everyone I've met. Thank you for everything you've taught me. Thank you for helping me to become the person I am.
Pictured going around the table clockwise from very left: Frankie, Perry, Don, James, Ty, me, Richard, Nate, Adam, Rani, Heath. Not pictured who I wish could be in this photo: Will Terry, Adam Munoa, Kenna Rieske, Denise Mutch, Ginny Tilby, Stewart Craig, Justin Mayhew, Jared Salmond, Kari. I will miss all of you.
Thank you Jamin LeFave and Peter Sakievich, for crafting classes that made my brain explode and ooze out my ears. Jamin's anatomy class was terrifying in its scope and requirements. It's the first class where I went, "Yep, I'm in upper division illustration classes now." And Peter's head rendering class (also anatomy) was the same. Thank you for pushing us to learn our craft.
And thank you to these fine gentlemen.
Perry Stewart, Don Seegmiller, Richard Hull.
And since Will terry wasn't in that photo:
(This might be the only photo of me and Will Terry.
Which is a shame.)
Perry, Don, Richard, and Will have had such a significant impact on my life that I would be remiss not to mention them in any list of people for which I am thankful. The positive influence of these men on my life cannot be overstated.
Thank you, Will Terry, for putting success in illustration, design, and the industry into terms I could understand. It all snapped into place because of you. Your abundant and generous philosophy has changed my entire outlook. I count you as a friend and colleague that I will continue to respect and admire for the rest of my life.
Thank you, Perry Stewart, for working with me when I had personal challenges, showing me how to be the best version of the artist I could be, and making me laugh in every. single. class.
Thank you, Richard Hull, for offering so much encouragement. You challenged us, demanded the best of us, and reminded us consistently of the goal toward which we were working. You are the most entertaining foodie I have ever met.
And Don Seegmiller, thank you. Thank you for always being there for me. For giving me good news over and over. I cried in your office more than once, but most of the time because you were reminding me how awesome I was. For pushing me higher and higher and investing your heart and soul into my education, as you do with every student. I am so grateful for you. So. So. Grateful.
